The Zatanna challenge is the first one of Update 2.2, and the guide will cover the Nightmare difficulty of the challenge. She is quite worthy of getting due to her beneficial passive and great stats.
|Gold||900/1150||231,000||Unlocked through challenge|
|Deck of Fate: Pick a card, any card! Zatanna can pick a card (using 2nd special) to gain 50% of health, damage over time, damage boost, power drain, or like all magic, it can BACKFIRE.|
Zatanna is probably (if not the best) self-supporting card on the team, minus her unusual and sometimes random chance of having her magic harm her. She can heal half her health (similar to Doomsday Prime's passive), deal damage over time, power drain her opponent, or have it BACKFIRE. She truly is a game of chance, and has wicked stats to compensate. She can do DoT's to start to fight with her first special, which can be boosted via gears and certain passives like Batman Returns Catwoman. All in all she is a very desirable character and you should quickly get her!
Zatanna's challenge has 189 total battles, 63 per difficulty. Four rounds have 12 battles, and the last round has 15 battles, with the challenge character appearing either as a mini-boss, boss, or souped up boss. It will take 189 Challenge Credits to do so. Every battle can be fought or skipped. If the battle is skipped, it costs Power Credits to do so. This adds a bit of motivation so players don't have to buy their way through. But sometimes, players can't defeat a certain battle, and as such, are forced to skip it. As you progress, battles become tougher, and skip prices become higher as well.
Zatanna's challenge lasts 17 days from September 18 2014 to October 6 2014. The chart below shows you how much it costs to skip ALL challenges in a round per difficulty. The only one that changes is the final round where you encounter the Challenge character as a boss.
|Difficulty||Round 1||Round 2||Round 3||Round 4||Round 5|
The recommended teams are ones I compiled to correspond with the challenge's requirements. These are my recommendations, but you are free to use other ones.
Round 1: Bronze Characters Only
Bronze Characters only! Probably the easiest of all the challenges. Or not. You must have any of the Bronze cards available in Injustice. I use this team to win all my battles.
|Insurgency Deathstroke||Lex Luthor Prime||Regime Solomon Grundy|
|Deathstroke gains 15% of his total power whenever he knocks out an opponent.||Lex Luthor and his teammates gain 15% INCREASED DAMAGE.||Solomon Grundy regenerates 25% of his health when knocked out.|
Deathstroke is one of the strongest Bronze cards. On top of that, because of his high damage, he knocks out opponents quickly, and gains some power back to finish the fight. Lex Luthor adds a strong damage boost increase, and also has a power drain, which is useful for saving your arse in a fight. Lastly, Solomon Grundy, the tank of the group, can take one blow that would have killed him. He also has a poisonous second special which adds extra DPS.
Round 2: Harley Quinn Required
Round 2 features Harley Quinn of all prospects. Round 2 is the easiest of the challenge rounds. As such, any team is really possible. But, here is my recommended team.
|Killing Joke Joker||Arkham Harley Quinn||Animated Harley Quinn|
|On KNOCK-OUT, the Joker's team members POWER is CHARGED TO FULL.||Harley and her teammates gain 25% INCREASED HEALTH||Harley and her teammates gain 20% DAMAGE and POWER GENERATION. DOUBLE for JOKER characters.|
The second round is easy and as such you're going to want to go through it with quickly. Give Joker your damage gears as he will be getting a 40% boost of Damage/Power and 25% Health boost from the Harley Quinn's. He'll be able to win this whole round on his own. In emergencies, if knocked out, he gives full power to the team, and the Harley Quinn cards have an unblockable second special if needed.
Round 3: Bronze and Silver Characters Only
Round 3 is a tough one. Mostly because you're now sparring with Gold characters and you have just Silver (or if you're a tough one) Bronze characters. Here is the team I used.
|Regime Flash||Insurgency Lex Luthor||Regime Green Lantern|
|The Flash and his team attack 15% FASTER.||Lex Luthor and his teammates gain 25% MORE HEALTH.||Green Lantern and his teammates gain 25% POWER GENERATION.|
I have two Silver teams, but Deathstroke's challenge 3 is going to involve being a tank and having tons of buffs such as health and power to carry on through. Flash is the strongest Silver card behind Black Adam Prime, and attacks fast. Lex is a power drainer and adds a bloody brilliant health boost. Green Lantern adds a quick power generation, perfect for Flash who hits really fast. Also, if you want, you can sub out Flash for Wonder Woman Prime, due to her passive.
Round 4: Bane Required
Round 4 is where fights begin to get tougher. Consider it the briefing of what's to come in Round 5. You'll need any Bane card, but this Round 4 is much easier than the ones before in other challenges, but it is still tough.
|Luchador Bane||Krypto Lex Luthor||Animated Harley Quinn|
|On TAG-IN, Bane has a chance to STUN, and gains a 25% DAMAGE INCREASE for 3 seconds.||Lex Luthor and his teammates gain 30% MORE HEALTH.||Harley Quinn and her teammates gain 20% DAMAGE and POWER GENERATION.|
Bane will be your powerhouse, being backed up by Lex and Harley's passive for ultimate damage. Should he have low damage, he can be switched out for Lex who can power drain, or Harley to assist in her second specials. Bane can also rejoin the fight later, earning him a STUN chance and increased damage for those last, brutal, killing blows.
Round 5: Black Adam Required
Last but not least comes round 5. Where your most powerful of teams comes together to defeat the hardest of opponents who are still at Elite V. You can use any combo of Gold characters with Green Arrow, but here is what I used.
|Arkham Origins Batman||Luchador Bane||Regime Black Adam|
|Batman starts battles with 2 BARS of POWER.||On TAG-IN, Bane gains a chance to STUN, and deals 25% increased damage for 3 seconds.||On TAG-IN, Black Adam gains a lightning shield that deals damage to enemies who hit. Lasts 3 hits. (Reflects 75% of damage back).|
Now this Round 5 is VERY, VERY EASY. You only fight two mini-bosses (excluding Zatanna) in this whole round, and some team matchups are very inferior before your team. Nevertheless, they have some characters that can become annoying, some as CS Doomsday. As such, you will want to use Batman's 2nd special to knock characters out fast, Bane's tag in to stun and deliver high damage, or Black Adam to reflect some damage back.
These are all the battles in the Nightmare difficulty version of this challenge. Please consult the recommended teams above.
