Dampening Field is one of the possible challenges (commonly called "handicaps" or "modifiers" to avoid confusion with Challenge Mode) encountered in Standard Battle or certain matches in Challenge Mode.
Dampening Field reduces your power generation. There is considerable variation - in some matches the reduced power generation is barely distinguishable, in others it is practically impossible to generate any power.
